Recently the last foster cat left.
Manpiece and I opened our home to four kitties in need of love and temporary lodging a few months ago. They just broke my heart the first night... they approached food as if they weren't sure they'd ever see it again. It was like they didn't understand that they were physically full; they seemed like they were trying to fill some psychological void with whatever was obtainable. Behavior like the foster cats exhibited had to be learned over a long time period of food unavailability... the kind of torture no one should ever have to endure. I would've continued to foster if we weren't entering into a period of "real estate activity".
In most cases, I value and respect animals more than I value and respect humans. Dante Alighieri's seven deadly sins defines us as a greedy, lustful, proud, jealous, vengeful, gluttonous and lazy species... these seven cons of human nature cause infinite INTENTIONAL suffering (has anyone viewed the dog burning video
here?). Animals do not possess the capacity of deliberate evil and so are truly innocent.
People ask how I can find more worth in the life of say, a snake, than even a human child? Well a snake only kills when necessary to eat. It will bite to defend itself or (in some species) its brood... many kinds will even give great warning before it "wastes" its venom and/or energy on something it can't eat. The snake is required in the food chain of many biotopes. It keeps its prey animal population under control, but does not decimate it, as the snake is also an important source of nutrition for its predators. The human child, however, commonly exhibits some of the most evil thinking and action of our species. They taunt, torture, and destroy knowingly and only curb their behavior when they meet our society's disapproving eye. Cats thrown in boxes with firecrackers, dogs with their jaws superglued together, lizards with their limbs purposefully pulled off, hamsters cooked alive in microwaves... would a snake ever commit such horrors?
We have phenomenal potential of doing wonders for both each other and nature, but the only hugely significant things we've brought on our world are wars, over-population, and environmental destruction. In the face of this, some people say "well what about love?", but fat lot of good that has done us... in reality, love has and continues to lead many into acts of unspeakable violence. The big picture is: we are slowly killing our mother and her other children, therefore slowly killing ourselves in both body and spirit.
I've pretty thoroughly pounded my mood (and probably yours) into a bitter powder of depressive, choking dust... so it's time for a cute and distracting picture!
Lance is sleeping; he woke up shortly after I took this shot which prevented me from taking a clearer version, but doesn't he look like the next victim of pet-CSI?
[Sigh] as much as I hate my own species, there's not much i can do about things... at this point the massive destructicon freight-train of humanity has gained enough momentum that single people trying to stop it are like tiny gnats on the windshield. I will try, of course. Maybe in my lifetime I can help a few animals and an acre or two of greenery. Isn't it funny how the word humanity means both "the human race"
and "altruism," "compassion," and "mercy," when the truth is hideous, grotesque, and savage?
Two the fosters are available for adoption. Please go
here to view them. I really hope to find them forever-homes who will think of them as their own children and care for them as they deserve to be cared for.
We people often need to look at our pets and learn how to live and let live... and really unconditionally love our families. If we could truly learn from them, our species wouldn't suck so much. There is still a chance, if enough people behave a little less selfishly, that everyone might be saved. See how you can help
here.
