荳荳 Do Do
荳荳的故事 DoDo's Story:
In January of 2018, TSPCA organized an adoption event with the Banqiao Animal Shelter. While holding the adoption event, a man with a small black dog came towards us. We assumed he wanted to come to adopt a second dog and did not expect the owner to say that he was here to relinquish his pet.
The reason he was relinquishing his dog was that when grandma tried to play with her, she had bitten and injured the grandmother. The grandmother was angry and told the owner to throw the dog out.
Even though many on the scene tried to persuade the owner that it was not the dog's fault, the owner insisted that he could no longer care for her. After living with the family for 2 years, the dog was now about to be abandoned by her owner.
TSPCA staff couldn’t bear to see the frightened dog being put inside the shelter, as it was already very crowded. We decided to do a live broadcast on our FB and see if anyone would come forth to temporarily foster DouDou. While we were broadcasting, DouDou whimpered loudly and desperately for quite some time, seemingly as if she was crying out for her owner to come back.
Fortunately, a nice lady offered to come to the shelter immediately and foster DouDou. After a few days, we also received a few adoption applications. We selected a family and brought Doudoufor the home visit and adoption interview. DouDou was behaving very well and the family said that she should feel happy living there. However, at the new home, Doudouwas not doing very well. She wouldn’t let anyone touch her, hid in the corner of the room, and would not come out and interact with the family members. We told the adopters that DouDou needed time and patience and to just let her be for a while so that she can get accustomed to her new environment. However, one day, the adopter went to pet DouDou, everything was going fine until she moved her hand away and DouDou bit her. This caused the family to be scared of her, with elders even threatening her with a stick. The adopter immediately called us as she did not want Doudouto be hurt. The only thing was to bring Doudouback and place her at a foster home.
DouDou needs someone with patience and one who is willing to give her space and time to heal from her past. Please contact us if you would like to give DouDou a chance.
