Taiwan SPCA

_ Taiwan SPCA(台灣防止虐待動物協會)成立於2009年,在台灣致力於以合法的方式提倡友善地對待動物,防止虐待動物及減輕動物的所承受的痛苦
動物無法為自己發聲,所以人類習以為常地將牠們視為次等公民,甚至合理化的視牠們為商品.在動物保護意識抬頭的21世紀,大眾對於” 動物是如何被對待”的議題有著高度的關注及關心.台灣的動物保護法於1998年發佈,當一個城市在極力發展社會面和經濟面的同時,道德面的發展也是非常重要的,我們必須和全世界一起 ”尊重動物”.

Taiwan SPCA藉由徹底實現以下目標,以達到幫助及減輕所有動物/物種的痛苦:

The Taiwan SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) was founded in 2009 with the aim to promote kindness towards, prevent cruelty to, and alleviate the suffering of animals in Taiwan by all legal means.

Animals cannot speak for themselves, and thus humans often find it easy and convenient to treat them as lesser beings and find it justifiable to treat them as mere commodities. Never before have there been more public outcries and immense concern for the way animals are treated than in the 21st century. In Taiwan, the Animal Protection Act was only promulgated in 1998 and as the country develops both socially and economically, there needs to be advancements in morality as well,  and a compassion for animals that share this world with us. The Taiwan SPCA works to help end the suffering of all animal species through its main pillars of focus:

_ Taiwan SPCA的人文教育課程不只針對兒童,也針對成人.長期於公/私立學校舉辦以保護動物為主題的多元化研討會及座談會,藉此希望盡早建立孩童對於動物的尊重及同情.研究報導顯示當孩童較尊重動物時,同時,也更尊重及熱情地面對自己的人生.孩子是我們的未來;動物承擔痛苦的問題必須從根本預防及阻止,而非重複地發生.在台灣,公立學校近期才開始教授人文教育課程.為了建立一個更珍惜我們地球及所有生物的未來,我們必須使實踐動物保護及關懷動物需求成為我們文化的一部分.

我們(Taiwan SPCA)認為所有虐待動物,剝削動物及折磨動物案件的主因都來自於不足的常識和無知的心態.以長期拜訪學習機構(如學校,夜間學校,補習班等),我們希望可以教導成人和兒童關於動物的感情,動物禮儀等,只要適當的照顧和責任感,我們確信動物和人類可以和平共存.Taiwan SPCA鼓勵所有民眾對於需要我們幫助的動物伸出援手。

The Taiwan SPCA’s Humane Education Programmes reaches out to both children and adults. Through working with public and private schools in holding seminars and symposiums on various topics of animal protection, the Taiwan SPCA hopes to teach children about having respect and empathy for animals starting at a young age. Studies have shown that when children respect animals they respect life and develop a kindness and compassion towards others as well. Children are our future; the problem of animal suffering needs to be prevented and stopped at the root, rather than resolved once it has already happened. In Taiwan, Humane Education has only started in public schools in recent years. Animal protection practices and love for animals needs to become part of the culture in order to create a future that cherishes the environment and all living things that live within it.

The Taiwan SPCA believes that animal abuse, animal exploitation, and animal suffering continue because of the lack of knowledge and an ignorant mindset. Thus by visiting learning institutions and involving even adults in presentations of animal sentience, pet etiquette, proper care and responsibility, we establish that animals and people can live in harmony; the Taiwan SPCA hopes to empower people to make a change and to make a stand for animals that need our help.

_ 人們常以舊有的模式思考及行動.因此,我們必須以更有效率的方式改變大眾對待動物的想法和方法.Taiwan SPCA不只積極參與公眾活動及集會,也藉由公眾人物,明星,廣播電台,電視名人,和體育團隊進行密切的合作關係以提高大眾對動物福利問題的關注.

保護動物免於虐待,滅種,剝削或傷害等議題上需要立即的改變.2009年,Taiwan SPCA在台北市各地區發出超過5萬份的宣傳單,藉此宣導"結紮"的重要性.2010年,和職棒選手郭泓志共同合作的"反捕獸夾"宣傳活動.2012年,Taiwan SPCA展開一連串的"反魚翅"活動,希望台灣的餐廳,飯店停止販賣魚翅湯及教育民眾獵捕鯊魚的殘忍過程.

People do things in certain ways often because they do not know any other alternatives. In order to make drastic changes in the way people think and treat animals, we must reach out to them in effective ways. Not only does the Taiwan SPCA participate in public demonstrations and rallies, it works closely with public figures, celebrities, radio and television personalities, and sports teams in order to bring public awareness to different animal welfare issues.

There needs to be certain changes in the way animals are currently treated and seen in order to protect animals from becoming extinct, exploited, or hurt. The Taiwan SPCA begun with a Spay and Neutering Campaign in 2009 by handing out over 50,000 leaflets at various locations around Taipei City. In 2010, the Taiwan SPCA pushed for the ban of gin traps and collaborated with Major League Baseball star Kuo Hong Chih. In 2012, the Taiwan SPCA has commenced an Anti-Shark Fin Campaign with the goal of stopping the sale of shark fin soup in restaurants and hotels around Taiwan, and to bring a mass awareness to the cruelties of shark finning.

_所有公民的道德責任應以法律為依據,而進行保護及管理我們的社會.當我們接到民眾報案關於動物受到忽視,處於有壓力的環境,被剝削,或處於危險情況 時,Taiwan SPCA會和當地政府機關,警察單位合作,盡我們最大的努力深入調查,找尋相關證據,救援,並給予這些無法為自己發聲的動物應得的正義.大眾常因對於責任 感的恐懼而忽視虐待案件的發生,對於犯法者僅以道德勸說是不夠的,我們需要更健全的動物保護法來預防及阻止虐待案件的再次發生.

Taiwan SPCA希望提高大眾對台灣動物保護法律的關注並了解虐待動物者必須承擔的法律後果.公民必須被授予保護動物的權利,相對地,Taiwan SPCA努力使大眾了解當動物受到折磨時,牠們是可以感受到痛苦的情感動物.當人們改變對待動物的態度時,也將減輕動物本身對於虐待行為所感受的負擔壓力.

The basic moral obligation of all citizens should be to abide by the laws set out to protect and govern our society. The Taiwan SPCA receives calls and reports of abuse cases where animals are found in neglectful, stressful, exploited, and/or dangerous situations. The Taiwan SPCA does its best to investigate, obtain crucial evidence, rescue, and work with the local police and government departments to bring justice for animals who cannot stand up and speak for themselves. Often times the public turn a blind eye to animal abuse cases because of the fear of responsibility; many law-offending perpetrators will also not change just for morality reasons but need stringent animal protection laws to prevent them from repeating their behavior and to stop the recurrence of animal cruelty.

The Taiwan SPCA hopes to increase public awareness to the fact that there are laws protecting animals in Taiwan and that there will be repercussions for those who commit these crimes. Citizens must be empowered to act but not if they feel indifferent to animals; the Taiwan SPCA works to make people see that animals are sentient beings with the capacity to suffer. When people change their attitudes towards animals, the cruelty imposed upon animals can be subsequently reduced.

Taiwan SPCA致力於保護所有物種/動物,包括寵物,農場動物,海洋生物及野生動物.對於動物富有無限的關懷及同情心和尊重,Taiwan SPCA希望大家一起創造出人類和動物和平共存的和諧環境.

Taiwan SPCA同時進行以下工作:
-幫助社區飼養者和愛心媽媽飼料及必需品上的支援
-救援受傷/生病的流浪動物(幫助找新家)
-幫助受救援的動物進入SPCA的中途之家體系,並支援中途之家.
-於板橋寵物公園成立"SPCA領養小站"
-提供一般民眾,SPCA會員及領養者相關後續的行為訓練
-藉由TNR,減少流浪動物的數量

The Taiwan SPCA aims to protect all animal species which includes pets, farm animals, marine animals, and wildlife. The Taiwan SPCA hopes to create a widespread compassion and respect for animals while at the same time helping humans co-exist with animals in peace and harmony.

Work of the Taiwan SPCA also include:
-helping community feeders and aixin mamas with kibble and product support
-rescuing of injured and/or sick stray animals (subsequent re-homing efforts)
-providing support for SPCA’s crucial Foster Program for rescued animals
-maintaining the SPCA Adoptions Corner at “Pet Park” in Banqiao City
-providing pet behavior training for adopters, members, and the general public
-TNR programs aimed at reducing the stray animal population
