Taipei City| Winnie's Story:
Winnie was rescued from Ruifang Shelter. He was first brought in back in 2021 after a public report, and for four long years, no one came to take him home. Despite being silly, affectionate, and friendly with both people and dogs, he quietly spent all those years waiting behind shelter walls.
In July 2025, a volunteer noticed a lump near his neck and right cheek. Though the vet first prescribed medication, the mass kept growing. We rushed him to a medical center, where the doctors warned us that surgery would be risky and could affect his swallowing and nerve function. Still, we decided to go ahead—for Winnie’s comfort and chance at a better life.
Thankfully, the surgery was a success! The tumor was shockingly large (the vet described it as “the size of a dragon fruit!”). His incision stretched from his back up to the base of his skull, so deep it required four layers of stitches and drainage tubes. Pathology confirmed it as a malignant fibrosarcoma. While the chance of recurrence is relatively low, he will need regular follow-ups.
Brave Winnie pulled through like a champ! He is now recovering in a foster home, doing wonderfully—his hearing, chewing, and swallowing are unaffected. He has only become a little picky about food, preferring tasty meals every day (what a spoiled boy 😆).
🌟 Winnie’s Personality
Gentle, goofy, and very people-friendly
Excellent with vet visits and baths—100% cooperative
A true homebody: after bathroom walks, he just wants to go back to being a couch potato
Quiet and independent, not clingy
Gets along well with most dogs, though mealtimes should be kept separate to avoid tension
💌 If you’re looking for a calm companion to quietly share your life, Winnie is the perfect choice. He has already endured four years in the shelter—now it’s his turn to enjoy peace and happiness. We hope a loving family will open their hearts to this brave, sweet boy and let his story begin a joyful new chapter.
